Opinion: FEC N9.2billions for Stoves, My Take- By Shaibu Stephen Ojate

By Shaibu Stephen Ojate

The recent move of Federal Executive Council to approve the whopping sum of N9.2billions for the purchase of stove for the rural women in Nigeria is uncalled for and condemnable. Whoever muted the idea and advised President Jonathan to purchase Stoves for Nigerian women are enemies of Nigeria.

I am speaking as a patriotic citizen of this country and one that believe in Nigeria and the Peoples Democratic Party. I want to make it known to all that despite that I am staunch member of PDP that will not becloud my sense of reasoning for not condemning bad policy of federal government when the need arises with a view to alert the government of the day to make amend and take correction in her policies.

Recall that we presently have Ajaokuta steel and Itakpe Iron Ore companies needing fund for its completion. Federal executive Council should as a matter of fact divert the said N9.2billions earmarked for the purchase of stoves to reactivate the ailing companies in Kogi state. N9.2billions is a good fund and such can make an impact in the resuscitation of the said companies.

If the said fund is properly channeled into the companies, we can be sure of manufacturing millions of Stoves which the government of the day can even distribute free of charge to Nigerian women. For this reason, federal government should shelve the idea of buying stoves and reason to my call as such amount to waste of resources where we have priority projects calling for attention.
