It was jubilation galore last weekend, as people of Ehime Mbano local government, and indeed, traders at the area’s popular Aba Branch market, trooped out in their large numbers to appreciate the philanthropic gestures of the Speaker, Imo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, for coming to the rescue of their members who were victims of dangerous fire disaster which engulfed some parts of the market few months ago
According to reports, the fire incident which gutted the popular market on that fateful day, razed down eight shops completely, thereby inflicting distress and emotional trauma on the victims before the Speaker’s financial assistance came.
In a thank you message to the Speaker, Mr. Timothy Nwaiwu, who spoke on behalf of the eight traders at the event, chronicled the pains and agony the traders went through before the intervention of the Speaker and thanked God for using him to assuage their feelings.
Mr. Nwaiwu, pointed out that the Speaker’s gesture towards them after the incident, brought back their hopes of survival and also set them a newer foundation through which they can launch back to their earlier status in business.
The fire victims, who were full of appreciation and thanks, while praying for the Speaker, also assured him of their total and unalloyed support in his future endeavor.
Responding, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, who empathized with the victims, noted that he was moved to render such help to them, based on a shocking report he received while on road inspection in the area, from a little boy, whose mother was also a victim of the incident.
He maintained that it was natural of him to assist the victims regain their pride of place in business, adding that he was happy that the seed he sowed few months ago has grown in such proportion, while thanking them for judiciously investing the funds for the betterment of their businesses and families.
He promised that he would continue to monitor their progress through his campaign coordinator, Hon. Vice Agu, in the area to ensure their total stability.
He expressed appreciation to God for sparing the lives of the shop owners in that incident, but advised people of the area to always be wary of acts capable of causing such misfortune in future.
