Gov. Obi Deserves a Third Term – Cleric

1625596_646935092037473_1240746812_nThe Archbishop of Onitsha Catholic Ecclesiastical Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Valerian Okeke said that if he had his way, he would whisper to the ears of relevant authorities to grant only Gov. Obi the waiver to serve a third term in view of what he called his “superlative performance in Anambra State.” Speaking yesterday during the inspection of on going work at Holy Rosary Hospital and Maternity ( Waterside), Onitsha, the Cleric said he knew that what he desired was not possible in view of Constitutional provisions, but said it was, in a manner of speech, a way of demonstrating the sentiments of the people towards Gov. Peter Obi.

The Cleric who received three security vehicles, one life-saving ambulance and a cheque of N50 Million from the Governor for on-going work in the hospital, called on other Governors to emulate Gov. Obi’s model of governance, including reaching to the people through active and fruitful collaboration with the Church. He assured that the Church will continue to utilize the money for the purpose it was given.

The Cleric who disagreed with Governor Obi’s decision to quit politics, appealed to him to re-consider the decision, reminding him that when good people abdicate governance, the bad ones will take over.

Inspecting completed and on- going projects in the Hospital, including the completed giant maternity complex, building for the School of Nursing and giant laboratory complex, the Governor said that one of the decisions by his Government that he would ever remain proud of was the return of schools to the Church and the decision to partner with them in healthcare and education delivery. He said that with the Church, the State was enjoying execution of quality projects at lesser costs and more commitment to the welfare of the people.

The Governor assured that other Dioceses, both Catholic and Anglican as well as some Pentecostal Churches, depending on their population will get their own security vehicles, which, according to him, is not a substitute for security, but meant to complement Government’s efforts.

Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of Onitsha Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Dr. Patrick Omuta said that Obi would long be remembered for his tenacity, humility and running a value and responsible- driven government. He said that the Governor met Anambra a decayed State and raised it many notches to an enviable State was seeking to be emulated at all fronts.
