The Anglican Bishop on the Niger, Most Rev. Dr. Owen Nwokolo said that the Church and the entire people of Anambra were increasingly more proud of Gov. Peter Obi for his unwavering dedication to the growth and development of Anambra State. Dr. Owen said this yesterday after laying the foundation for the building of the Accident and Emergency Ward of the Iyienu Hospital and the presentation of a Cheque of N50m to him by Gov. Peter Obi for the ongoing developmental projects at the Iyienu Hospital.
Advising the Governor-elect to follow the footsteps of Gov. Peter Obi, he described Obi as one of the most committed Nigerians he has seen. He said it was a cause for celebration that when, five months to leave office, when others would have ordinarily stopped working , that the Governor, with two months to go, was still working tirelessly for the good of the people of the State.
Speaking at the vent, Gov. Obi said that beside trying to change the psyche and the value system of the people of the State, that one of the things he considered as his greatest achievements was the partnership with the Church, which had yielded great fruits. “Today we look with pride to so many projects we carried out in the health and education sectors through the partnership with the Church. Though some people are against the practice, but the justification lies in the fact that if we were to do those projects through the normal government contract process, we would not have achieved 30% of what the Church achieved given the same funding”, Obi said.
Speaking further, Obi expressed confidence that the governor-elect would sustain and even improve better on his projects and assured that his Government has set enough money aside for all the projects he just flagged off and those to be flagged off shortly, including Three Arms Zone, Amansea-Amawbia Dual Carriage way and the Nnewi Shopping Mall.
The Special Adviser to Gov. Obi on Millennium Development Projects, Mrs Vivian Nwandu said the Governor was able to achieve so much because of his prudence management of resources that contributed in building confidence among development partners.
