UNICEF Commends Gov. Obi’s Focus and Purposful Leadership

1474618_613867768677539_975446630_nThe UNICEF says Governor Peter Obi’s focused and committed leadership has facilitated success of its various programmes in the State. Speaking when Governor Obi visited the UNICEF Enugu office, the Chief of Field Officer, Mr. Charles Nzuki commended the Governor’s exemplary commitment in scaling up pilot progrmames and timely release of government counterpart contribution.

Mr Nzuki said UNICEF was proud of the remarkable results achieved in promoting welfare of children through the State Integrated programme that gave more children access to good health, education, protection, safe drinking water and immunization while more women were accessing PMTCT services through the increased commitment of the Governor’s administration to prevention of HIV.

He also extolled Governor Obi for the face lift and transformation of the State Education status and general improvement in the quality of education services delivery. The UNICEF Chief announced that the Agency was initiating more partnership with South-East States to promote friendly child learning environment by providing necessary logistics that would equip children to develop full potential as well as build the capacity of teachers.

Responding, Governor Obi said his administration would sustain efforts towards attracting Donor Agencies’ intervention to fill the State budgetary gaps. The Governor who noted that UNICEF was one of the pillars of the success story of the State, assured that his government would maintain prudent, transparent and efficient management of every support received, noting that people of the State voted massively for APGA because the government worked for them. He explained that the State budget had remained demand-driven with massive infrastructural development in poor rural areas to give them access to outside would and scale up economic power of the people. He noted that the inflow of foreign investments had created more employment opportunities.

An education specialist in the Agency, Dr. Mrs. Agatha Nzeribe thanked the Governor for securing the future of the children. Dr. Mrs. Nzeribe observed that the Governor’s open door policy and decentralization process greatly enhanced successful implementation of UNICEF programmes. He commended the Governor for bring a positive deviant in ways of doing things, which she explained is doing things the unusual, but more productive and beneficial way.
