Press Release: The First Lady Arrives Costa Rica for World Summit on Youth Online Protection

The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan arrived today, 07/08/2013, at Juan Santa Maria International Airport, San Jose, Costa Rica and was received by a delegation from the government of Costa Rica.

Dame Jonathan who is in San Jose at the special invitation of the President of Cost Rica, Madam Laura Chinchilla, will attend the Global Youth Summit on online protection titled “Beyond 2015,” which holds from September 8 to 11, 2013.

The First Lady will present an address at the Global Youth Summit and also interact with youths from across the world. Dame Patience, who was appointed as the Child Online Protection Champion by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT) stated during the airport ceremony that she would work with relevant stakeholders to draw global attention to the benefits as well as the risks of internet usage among young people.

Also present at the airport ceremony where the Envoy of Nigeria to Mexico with concurrent accreditation to Costa Rica, Ambassador Zhiri James Gana and his wife, Mrs. Lydia Gana; the ITU Director of Development, Mr. Brahim Sanou; Director General of State Ceremonial Protocol, Mr. David Reuben among others.
