Anambra 2013: Ubah Picks Eze as Running mate

GUARDIAN: AHEAD of the November 16 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, the Labour Party (LP) candidate Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah has chosen Dr. Emeka Eze as his running mate.

Eze, a scion of the royal Eze family of Ukpo in Dunukofia Local Council, is an accomplished medical doctor with experience spanning over two decades. He is also the managing director of Toronto Hospital Limited and a very prominent figure on Ubah campaign train.

A statement issued by a member of Ubah’s media team, Ayo Akinola, said “Eze brings with him a wide spectrum of experience as a politician of note in Onitsha North and Dunukofia in Anambra North and Central zones respectively. The Anglican Church, in recognition of his devotion to the work of God, knighted him in 1999.

“He belongs to the younger generation and is also a professional, articulate and dynamic in thinking. These qualities will complement the good stand of Ubah, a catholic and an indigene of Nnewi South Senatorial zone.”

Meanwhile, Ubah who is the chairman, Capital Oil and Gas Limited, has pledged to develop commerce and the market system in the state if elected in the forthcoming election.

Although he acknowledged that market development is the statutory responsibility of the local government, but “in view of the primacy of markets in the livelihood of our people, we shall partner with local council chiefs as well as investors to assist in the development of markets.

“Onitsha main market was reputed to be the largest in sub-Saharan Africa. Today, before our very eyes, the Onitsha main market has become a shadow of its very old self and painfully no longer live up to that rating. It is not contestable that our leaders that our traders need to be supported in different ways to elicit the best from them.”

Uba said his administration would recapture the market’s lost glory, saying “we will upgrade the market into an international standard. We will ensure that coastal trading is improved in and around Onitsha, Otuocha, Ossomali, Atani and others, by constructing jetties as well as providing boats and small vessels to improve trading activities in these areas.”

“We will also conduct standard and well-equipped shopping malls in Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka Capital City to cater for the shopping needs of our people. We shall also modernise the structures and practices in our markets with local government support,” the LP candidate said.
