APGA crisis: I am still in-charge in Anambra, says Kwentoh

APGA is split into different factions at various levels of the party.

Mike Kwentoh, the purportedly sacked Chairman of APGA in Anambra, said on Wednesday that he remained the chairman of the party in the state.
Mr. Kwentoh said in Awka that the re-affirmation of Victor Umeh as the National Chairman of the party by the Court of Appeal in Enugu made him the substantive chairman of the party in Anambra.
He said that those who earlier announced his sack failed to follow due process and respect for the party’s constitution, adding: “I did not expect my removal to stand.”
According to him, his removal and that of Mr. Umeh violated the APGA constitution, noting that it was an attempt to remove him for speaking against injustice.
“My purported sack was just a show of unconstitutionality and unless you adhere to the party’s constitution, whatever you do is null, void and of no effect,’’ he said.
Mr. Kwentoh said a special congress of the state with three people from each ward, state and local government must vote to remove him.
“My offence was that I published a press release that APGA was not going to be part and parcel of the congress which was illegal and I will not be part of it because the life span of that leadership will expire in 2015.
“So, when I heard the announcement I was not bothered because I wanted to know who sacked me and for what, nobody claimed that he/she sacked me. I decided not to join issues with them until the appeal court decided and as you can see I have been vindicated.
“I am still the authentic state chairman of APGA in Anambra today and to buttress it further the appeal court set aside the judgement of the High Court of Enugu,” Kwentoh said.
He lauded the appeal court in Enugu which restored Mr. Umeh as the chairman of the party and expressed hope that there would not be a repeat of the scenario.
“Chief Victor Umeh remains the national chairman of the party and that is where I belong; the fake convention has come and gone, that rascality cannot repeat itself anymore, he is back and in no distant time he will make a policy statement,” he added.
Also speaking, Williams Obiora, the Acting Secretary sacked alongside the chairman, described their purported removal as a sham and gross misuse of power.
“The Appeal Court in Enugu has set the records straight. Our national chairman has been restored, all the national and state officers too, so our party has come to stay to its normal and usual self. It was a complete sham,” Mr. Obiora said.
