Okonjo-Iweala is not interested in WTO’s job

The Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, is not interested in replacing Pascal Lamy as head of the World Trade Organisation when the Frenchman steps down in a year’s time, the ministry said on Thursday.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala is not a candidate for the leadership of the WTO. She has also not expressed any interest whatsoever in the position,” Reuters quoted the ministry as saying in an emailed statement on Thursday.

There had been speculations in the media that the highly respected Nigeria’s Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance whose unsuccessful bid earlier this year to head the World Bank garnered International approval is among candidates being considered for the World Trade Organisation’s to job.
