Explosions rock campaign rally in Bayelsa

Two bombs exploded have exploded in Bayelsa State,� in Nigeria’s southern region during a political rally on Wednesday, December 29, 2010,� police confirmed.

Beimo Rufus-Spiff, a Governorship candidate running under the platform of the People�s Democratic Party [PDP] in Bayelsa state elections, was holding a rally in the state capital Yenegoa when the first explosion happened.

Baylesa state police Commissioner, Aliyu Musa said no one had been killed but a number of people sustained injuries and had been taken to hospital.

“It was dynamite explosives planted at the venue earlier by people who are still at large. We are investigating,” said Musa. “The aim of the people responsible was to stop the rally.”

Beimo Spiff reacting shortly after the blast said “No amount of bomb scare would make me jettison my ambition. Bayelsans should be free to vote for candidate of their choice. I will forge ahead with my campaign.”
