Now That Atiku is Leading Jonathan in PDP’s Website Poll

It is very instructive that incumbency could be an albatross; depending on how
the actor uses the situation. Even with all the published swelling and growing
support for President Goodluck Jonathan, the Party’s website www.
peoplesdemocraticparty.com as at December 21, 2010, 6.30p.m puts Atiku
above Jonathan in the poll. Atiku had 668 votes and Jonathan 662.

It may be too close to call. Not until the January 13, 2010 would anyone know
who between the two would be the flag-bearer for PDP at the 2011 presidential
election. Both Jonathan and Atiku’s campaign organizations have been involved
in unnecessary campaign of calumnies and threats against each other. If they
continued this way, neither Atiku nor Jonathan would win the presidential
elections when either contests under PDP platform. The type of damaging
advertisements they both run at present in the print media is clear pointer to
this.

Jonathan became so desperate that he threatened the PDP governors that they
all would sink with him (as captain of the ship) if they failed to support him. He
then offered them automatic ticket for this support, which they hollowly gave him.
But this is against the democratic norms expected in the Party and probably this
seems the reason PDP national chairman, Okwesilieze Nwodo, tried countering
Jonathan’s utterance, the next day.

Another confusion Jonathan’s promise to the governors has created is that PDP
members at the National Assembly may feel short-changed as no similar
promise has been made to them by President Jonathan.

One between Jonathan and Atiku looks more desperate and panicky: Jonathan
is said to have gone to Pastor T.B. Joshua in secret and to RCCG’s General
Overseer, Pastor Adeboye in the open; for intervention. Jonathan reminded
Adeboye how his prophecy on him becoming the president came to pass.

But was Jonathan recounting happily how Yar’Adua’s death made the prophecy
comes true? This is ungodly, if so. It will be recalled that before 2007 elections,
former President Obasanjo took Umaru Yar’Adua (also) to Pastor Adeboye.
What did the man of God tell Yar’Adua then; that he will die for Jonathan to be
president?
