PROSTITUTES FLOOD BENUE FROM ABUJA.

More than three months after the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) authorities placed a ban on activities of commercial sex workers, Benue, a neighbouring state has continued to record an influx of prostitutes on a daily basis.

Nigerian Compass’ investigation has revealed that the prostitutes are mostly seen in large numbers in the three major towns of Makurdi, Gboko and Otukpo.

While some of them stay in cheap hotels, others who could not afford hotel rooms hang around drinking joints to be picked by men during late hours.

One of them who identified herself simply as Msurshima told the Nigerian Compass that she could not accept the offer of the FCT authorities to train them to become self-sustaining because she is an illiterate.

She spoke in pidgin: “I never go primary school, so where can I start?”

She said she started prostitution at the age of thirteen when her parents wanted to force her to go to school.

“When my parents wanted me to go to school, I refused but when they wanted to force me, I ran to Abuja and met my aunty who introduced me to the business of prostitution at the age of thirteen<“ she said.

Others who spoke to Nigerian Compass but would not want their names in print said they chose to come to Makurdi when they heard that the Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi, was closed down due to a two month strike embarked upon by the university’s local branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU).

They said their assumption was that with the absence of BSU female students there would be high patronage from politicians and top government officials who visit the school and pick the female students at late hours.

They said, with the reopening of the university recently, their business was most likely to be affected.

A walk around Makurdi town has shown that many drinking joints and new hotels are springing up while hotel business has generally received a boost in recent times.

Most politicians and businessmen who chose to invest their money in Benue State have seen hotel business as the best as a result of which small hotels and guest houses are found at almost all the streets of Makurdi.

The situation is not different in Gboko and Otukpo.

A private medical practitioner, Dr. Daniel Agbo, while reacting to the influx of prostitutes in the state said the development has already posed a threat to the health of the people and called on the Benue State government to equally make a law prohibiting commercial sex activities in the state.

  6. It’s a welcomed development cause Igbo men are the most promiscuous and enjoy promiscuous women alot. Truth is we need to elect an Igbo man as president so that we all can enjoy prosperity in terms of business wise and lots of promiscuous women as Igbo men are known for encouraging promiscuity amongst women married or not. Igbo men need to pass laws that will legalize prostitution and abortion and also equal rights for women in all spheres of our social life. Women need to be more promiscuous to encourage our young men to work smarter and make money over night. Truth is that if you don’t have money stay away from women. Let the wealthy ones have more than enough women to satisfy their addiction. Igbo men need to pass laws as president of Nigeria for Establishment of brothels all over Nigeria where men can go and have free raw sex without condom paid for by the government as citizens right. An Igbo president will sign in laws that will institutionalize prostitution in Nigeria. We need an Igbo youthful light skin president now for the youths of Nigeria to live a sex full happy prosperous life.
