Woman dies in Orji Kalu’s U.S. home

News broke on Monday that Chinwe Masi, 47, died on August 19 in the home of former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu in the United States, and it emerged on Tuesday that Kalu, now in America, may return to Nigeria next week to declare his run for President.

He wants to campaign on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Masi, a Nigerian resident of Hyattsville, Maryland, was once married to Okechukwu Ogbonna.

She had just returned from Nigeria after a month-long visit.

An online publication, THEWILL, reported on Monday that the mysterious and sudden death of the woman in the high brow Potomac mansion of Kalu has left her relatives and friends uneasy and wanting answers.

Records THEWILL obtained from the Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland showed that Masi was pronounced dead at 8.48 p.m. after paramedics and fire service personnel arrived Kalu’s home at 14900 River Road, Potomac, MD in response to a 911 call made by someone in the residence believed to be Kalu.

Masi’s friends and relatives said she was full of life during her stay in Nigeria.

A source narrated that she died about two hours after arriving at Kalu’s residence.

Montgomery police personnel have so far ruled that her death occurred from natural causes but added that an autopsy would reveal the exact cause.

In spte of that, Masi’s relatives and friends are still doubtful of the natural cause theory and are pressing for further investigation.

A female Spokesperson for the Montgomery police recounted that on August 19, “fire rescue personnel responded to a 911 call at 14900 River Road, Potomac, MD. The call was not by the female who needed help.

“Chinwe Masi, a 47 year-old female, was pronounced deceased at the scene by responders. The cause of her sudden death is undetermined. Usually an autopsy would reveal the exact cause.”

Masi arrived the residence at about 7 p.m. Washington time (12 midnight Nigerian time).

Kalu and his friends were already drinking red wine, Masi opted to drink Guinness stout, which she took from the fridge.

She reportedly made two calls at about 8.38 p.m., after which she shouted that she had chest pain, then vomited blood and collapsed.

The police were called in and they searched everywhere in the home. After searching it for about eight hours, they absolved Kalu of any wrongdoing.

Masi was reportedly meeting Kalu for the second time, having first met in a mall in Montgomery in May.
