T The commercial town of Ankpa in Kogi State was thrown into mourning recently when one Mallam Idris Amodu allegedly slit the throat of his wife during a quarrel. According to an eye witness, the couple who resides at Ogaji , a suburb of Ankpa town had been having quarrels persistently over petty domestic issues.

Family sources disclosed to Sunday Sun that when the quarrels became disturbing, a concerned neighbour alerted the families of the couple, both of who immediately waded into the crisis and helped them reconcile their differences.
The eye witness said that the couple became friendly shortly after both parents had reconciled them and had resumed doing things in harmony until the evening of August 8th, when another ‘minor’ quarrel ensued again.

Unknown to the wife whose name was given as Adijatu Amodu, her husband has no forgiving spirit, as he was said to have slashed her neck when the fragile truce broke down irretrievably. The eye witness further told Sunday Sun that, in the afternoon of the fateful day, the suspect was seen filing his cutlass at a hide out, most likely preparing for the heinous crime.

After committing the heinous crime, the husband immediately fled into the bush. Adijatu bled to death before help could come. Confirming the incident on phone with Sunday Sun, the Divisional Police Officer of the area, Mr. Idowu Taiwo, said the assailant has been apprehended at Ojokodo village in a bush where he had taken refuge.

He said the matter would be transferred to police headquarters in Lokoja for further investigations, even as the deceased has been buried according to Muslim rites.
