ABUJA COURT READS RIOT ACT TO CALL GIRLS

Forty-six suspected commercial sex workers have been cautioned by a mobile court set up by the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) for constituting themselves into nuisances in the city.

Those arraigned for the alleged offences; Nancy Bassey, Hadiza Abdullahi, Fati Abdullahi, Jumai Ali, Jemila Abdullahi, Sharon Adogun, Helen James, Izuka Goodness, Joy Tali, Justina James, Juliet Oke, Patricia Agor, Charity Okafor, Vivan Monday, Helen Ogbonna, Helen Agor, Sandra Eze, Mama Baby, Martha Felix, Helen Denis, Chidi Michael, Blessing Eze, Adesuwa Ebohan, Precious Titi, Joy Ogbomudia, Tracy Agene, Celina Akudo, Enlya Idi, Lola Ajoyi, Temi Akinbode, Adoabi Goson, Maureen Opah, Doshina Mede, Mercy Michael, Ajayi Blessing, Ada John, Azumi Salit, Alimatu Abubakar, Amina Robo, Angela Chukwu, Jemila Isah, Joy Yade, Franca James, Iveren Ikowe, Vera Eze and Elizabeth Ayaye were all accused of prostitution.

Prosecuting counsel, Barrister Eze O. Eze, had earlier told the court that the accused persons were arrested by a combined team of AEPB’s Task Force and FCT Social Development Secretariat officials at Wuse and Garki areas of the city, between the hours of midnight and 2 am.

He said they were caught carrying out activities that constitute nuisances in the FCT and punishable under the AEPB Act of 1997.

When the charge was read to the accused persons, 30 of them pleaded guilty while others pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Aminu Abdullahi informed the accused persons to desist from the act and be of good behaviour, warning that if they are brought before the court again he will sentence them to jail.
