Senate approves N87 billion for INEC -NEXT

The Senate has approved a supplementary budget of N87.7 billion for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to aid the commission in organizing a credible election in 2011.

The approval is N2 billion less than the amount the commission requested. INEC had requested N89.59 billion for the elections which is five months aw but following a meeting with the team and members of the INEC committee in both the House of Representatives and Senate, both parties agreed to cut down the amount.

“At the end of our meetings, we looked at the budget thoroughly and saw that there were areas in which we needed to give serious attention like transportation and logistics,” Ayogu Eze, the senate spokesman said, adding “We moved money around and put money in crucial areas and made a saving of N2 billion.”
