Masari, Yar’Adua Join CPC

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari and his former Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abubakar Saddiq Yar’Adua, are among Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) bigwigs from Katsina State, who are defecting from the party to the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

They will join the party next Tuesday just as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will have more members added to it on Monday with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed, and his supporters set to dump the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) for the PDP.

A lthough, the exit of the former number four citizen from the PDP has long been speculated, he was yet to officially defect from the PDP where he is a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Official CPC statement made available to Saturday Tribune in Abuja on Friday revealed that all arrangements have been finalised to receive him and thousands of politicians from other parties who would be signing up with the fledgling party on Tuesday.

The arrangement was announced by the state Chairman, Dr. Yusha’u Armaya’u, who said a reception would be organised in honour of the defectors in Kofar Kaura in the state capital.

Among these are former Senate Leader, Senator Muhammed Liman; Senator Abdu Yandoma, who was Chairman of Senate Committee on Agriculture; Hon Sadiq Yar’Adua, former Chairman, House Committee on Foreign Affairs and Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, former Secretary to Katsina State Government (SSG) under President Umaru Yar’adua.

According to a statement signed by the state chairman of the party, “others are former special advisers and special assistants to the state governor, former local government chairmen, former and present honourable members of the House of Representatives and the state House of Assembly and over 39,000 PDP stalwarts from various wards in all the 34 local government t areas of the state.”

According to him, dignitaries from all over the federation were expected at the event which would be presided over by the former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari.

Senator Bala Mohammedr who was elected senator on the platform of ANPP had for long refused all entreaties to dump the party even when the governor of the state, Alhaji Isa Yuguda, toed that line.

Senator Mohammed, who finally announced on Friday to defect on Monday after his investiture as the national patron of the Goodluck Jonathan Pro-Poor Project, said he has to join the president in order to assist him in the giant stride of nation building.
