Prof. Dora Akunyili

The Minister of Information and Communications, Prof Dora Akunyili has been invited to appear before the United Nations Security Council on Nigeria’s contingents to troubled zones around the world.

Akunyili in a statement signed by her Special Assistant Orji Ogbonnaya Orji yesterday will participate in an Open Debate in the United Nations Security Council on Friday July 16, 2010 at the UN secretariat in New York, USA.

In a letter conveying the invitation to the Minister, the President of the United Nations Security Council and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Prof. Joy Ogwu, stated that the debate is based on a theme chosen by Nigeria: Conflict Prevention and Settlement of Disputes.

At the forum, Akunyili will present Nigeria’s sterling peacekeeping records and Government’s efforts to ensure peace, security and stability in the West African region and in the world through Nigeria’s contingents to troubled zones around the world.

Nigeria’s Permanent Representative, Prof Ogwu assumed Presidency of the prestigious Security Council on June 30, 2010 and will occupy the position and conduct the affairs of the Council for the month of July, 2010.
