UK court convicts Ibori’s Mistress.

A UK jury has found James Ibori’s associate, Udoamaka Okoronkwo, guilty on three counts of money laundering, in a verdict delivered today at the Southwark Crown Court, London.

The conviction of Ms. Okoronkwo came a day after Christine Ibie-Ibori, James Ibori’s sister, was similarly declared guilty of money laundering and mortgage fraud by the same court. The two women will be sentenced at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 7 2010.

Ms. Ibie-Ibori was found guilty of 12 charges stemming from allegations that she helped her brother and former Delta State governor, James Ibori, to launder an estimated $101.5 million stolen from Nigeria’s Delta State into U.K. bank accounts.

However, Mr. Ibori, in a statement released yesterday through his media aide, said his sister would appeal the judgment, wondering how she would be found guilty while the other two accused persons, Ms. Okoronkwo and Adebimkpe Pogoson, were not.

A Nigerian judge in December 2009, had dismissed a 170-count fraud case against Mr. Ibori, who was arrested on May 12, in Dubai, on a U.K. warrant and remains there on bail.
