Wonders shall never end! As the Febuary 6 Governoship elections in Anambra State draws near, there are indications that the aspirants from different political parties have adopted new strategies in their bid to have electorates ‘vote’ for them.
The latest strategies adopted by these aspirants includes giving out motocycles to the vulnerable voters as well as bags distributing bags of rice and salt to the voters. One of the voters who spoke to me anonymously from Nteje, Oyi Council Area of the State confirmed this story insisting that these aspirants are giving out motorcycle in their numbers to them thinking that they are smart. According to my respondent who has already got two motorcycles from the Labour party candidate, Dr Andy Uba and the PDP candidate Prof. Soludo said that time has come for them to take their own pound of flesh from these desperate politicians who only remember them during electioneeering campaigns only to abandon them after being ‘elected’ According to Him, just as the aspirants have adopted their ‘Okada strategy’, the voters have equally adopted theirs. He hinted that since virtually all the aspirants have huge amount of money to share, it provided an opportunity for ‘voters’. According to him none of the voters belongs to less than three political Parties each. To buttress his point, He disclosed that Nteje has become a mecca of some sort as all of these aspirants visits the town on daily basis to get the backing of one big politician from the town who is based in Abuja.
According to them, the man in question is so influential in Anambra politics that anyone who fails to get his blessings does so at his own risk. To this end, the Abuja based politician who also doubles as a PDP, Labour Party as well as Action Congress chieftain is in firm control of the machinery of these parties in Anambra North. As a matter of fact, my source hinted that there is a group in the town known as Labour-PDP because they are card carrying members of the both parties.
He equally hinted that in a couple of days, He is expecting another motorcycle from another aspirant.
Quite riddiclous you may say, but that is the brand of politics we have not just in Anambra State but in Nigeria as a general.
